Rendsburg - the former garrison town

What awaits you:

Welcome to Rendsburg, a town with a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. As early as 1252, Rendsburg was granted town charter and from then on became an important crossroads at the junction of the old Ox Road and the navigable Eider.

However, the strategically favorable location also brought the town many challenges, especially during the Thirty Years' War and the Danish rule, when it was developed as a border fortress.

It was not until the Schleswig-Holstein uprising against the Danish royal family that Rendsburg regained its importance and became a major transportation hub. You can experience this fascinating history up close in the Historical Museum or explore the "Blue Line", a 3.2 km long path through the old town that takes you to the 30 most beautiful buildings.

From the Old Town Hall with its historic carillon to Paradeplatz, where the Danish occupying forces surrendered in 1848, there is plenty to discover. A particular highlight is St. Mary's Church, the oldest building in the city, which impresses with its magnificent vault paintings and an impressive Mannerist high altar.

Visit us during your stay at the Seehotel Töpferhaus and discover the fascinating history and historical treasures of Rendsburg.
